Hanescu ousted in Stuttgart

07/12/2010 - Stuttgart, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Eighth seed and 2009 runner-up Victor Hanescu was an opening-round upset victim Monday at the Mercedes Cup tennis event.

The Romanian Hanescu was knocked out by Swiss Marco Chiudinelli 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on the red clay at TC Weissenhof. Hanescu lost to France's Jeremy Chardy in last year's Stuttgart finale.

One other Day-1 result saw German wild card Mischa Zverev zip past Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-4, 6-3. Stakhovsky titled in Den Bosch last month.

This weeks' top-four seeds, all of whom received opening-round byes, are Russian star Nikolay Davydenko, French Open semifinalist Jurgen Melzer, Frenchman Gael Monfils and former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain. Melzer will face Zverev in the round of 16.
