Hornets agree to terms with G Head

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -The New Orleans Hornets have reached an agreement on a two-year contract with veteran guard Luther Head.

The Hornets are not announcing the deal yet because Head still must pass his physical, but Head's agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The Associated Press on Saturday that the deal paying Head about $2.5 million over two years is done.

Bartelstein says the second year of the contract is a player's option, and that the Hornets pursued Head because they wanted a veteran who can play both guard spots.

The 6-foot-3 Head is entering his sixth NBA season. He has played with Houston, Miami and Indiana. Last season with the Pacers, he averaged 7.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 47 games.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons.  Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4.  Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1).  The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this.  No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
